Amazon has knocked it out of the park with their new rude & crude, hilarious R rated Anti-Superhero series, The Boys. Based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis (Preacher) and Darick Robertson, this is one to binge immediately.
Now, I haven’t read the comic books, and until about a few weeks ago, hadn’t even heard of it, but the trailer that was released recently, peaked my interest, to say the least.
The Boys is an R rated Super Hero series done right. This is what I was hoping Jessica Jones & Luke Cage might have been. Brutal, gory, gritty, funny, sweary, dark, violent, weird, wacky, and at times, pretty unsettling. ( * free the dolphins). The violence is over the top, the special effects are superb, and the comedy is crude. There’s so much to love about this.
Special mention to Karl Urban. He kills this! His cockney accent isn’t always the best, with his Kiwi twang peaking through here and there, but it works! It’s downright hilarious and I wouldn’t have it any other way. The C Word gets a good run here. Also, Anthony Starr, who plays Homelander, is freakin fantastic. I haven’t really seen him before this, but he really owns this role. There’s a few minor casting issues (wasn’t a huge fan of Elizabeth Shue), but nothing that takes away from the show.
The Boys is like a smash up of Marvel and DC, with strong Deadpool, Sin City and Daredevil vibes, but at the same time, it’s a completely unique beast. Bring on Season 2.
Highly recommend if you don’t easily offend.

A group of vigilantes known informally as “The Boys” set out to take down corrupt superheroes with no more than blue-collar grit and a willingness to fight dirty.
