The Best Movies on SBS On Demand right now as of Feb 2020

Must See Films, these are the best movies on Sbs On Demand right now. All these films are foreign language films.

The Guilty⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

There’s twists and turns, and a great lead performance from Jakob Cedergren. It’s tense and thrilling and has your attention from the opening scene.

‘I wasn’t ready for the intensity of this film, the entire time i was on the edge of my seat. The whole film is shot in an alarm dispatch centre, and it’s thrills come solely from phone calls, we hear everything but we don’t see anything. It’s a jaw-dropping experience, a true nordic gem. Once again, a perfect example that you don’t always need a ton of pretty visuals/effects etc to make a film enthralling.’ (Roope)

From the writer of Let The Right One In, comes another very unique Nordic tale. This could get a bit too weird for some, but I loved it.

When a border guard with a sixth sense for identifying smugglers encounters the first person she cannot prove is guilty, she is forced to confront terrifying revelations about herself and humankind.

Capernaum ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

is a gut wrenching film mostly circling around child poverty in Lebanon. It’s a tough one to get through but my God, it’s absolutely brilliant.

Plot- Zain, a 12-year-old boy scrambling to survive on the streets of Beirut, sues his parents for having brought him into such an unjust world, where being a refugee with no documents means that your rights can easily be denied.

Broken Circle Breakdown – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

A sad and powerful story, brilliantly told.

The loss of their young daughter threatens to destroy the love and faith of two married musicians.

Dheepan ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

Dheepan is a really important look into refugee life. Everyone should see this film!
Jacques Audiard does it again. The Beat My Heart Skipped, A Prophet, Rust and Bone and now Dheepan. Audiard is such a talented writer/director.

Plot – Three people, unknown to each other before they get on a boat to France, make their way from a war torn Sri Lanka, to try and find a better life. A liveable life. But there is no easy outcome.

Incendies ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Plot- A mother’s last wishes send twins Jeanne and Simon on a journey to Middle East in search of their tangled roots. Adapted from Wajdi Mouawad’s acclaimed play, Incendies tells the powerful and moving tale of two young adults’ voyage to the core of deep-rooted hatred, never-ending wars and enduring love. ‘imdb’

In a Better World ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

Directed by Susanne Bier

Plot – The lives of two Danish families cross each other, and an extraordinary but risky friendship comes into bud. But loneliness, frailty and sorrow lie in wait.
